Today, while paddling along Big Creek, I found several cliff swallows entering
and leaving nests below the bridge in Port Royal. There were approximately 30
intact nests under the bridge deck but it's difficult to say if all were active.

Further downstream, in the cattail marshes of the Big Creek National Wildlife
Area, a Virginia Rail was sounding the 'kik-kik' alarm.

Port Royal is located along Regional Road 42 (Lakeshore Road), approx. 2 km
west of Hwy 59 in Norfolk County.
