Hello Birders,

I went for an evening jaunt in Cranberry Marsh today, as it was clearing up
and becoming very pleasant, and Rayfield Pye had a Least Bittern there on
the 19th of this month.

Sure enough, after about an hour waiting on the east platform (the one
adjacent to the tower), a female LEAST BITTERN emerged from the cattails and
flew perhaps three metres, allowing for good, albeit brief, looks.

Also had were COMMON MOORHEN, a family of PIED-BILLED GREBES, a WOOD THRUSH,
many MARSH WRENS and SORA amongst more common species. Also noted was a
YELLOW WARBLER feeding a BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD chick.

The viewing platform is in Lynde Shores Conservation Area, on Victoria st
west of Brock st in Whitby.

Good Birding!
