Highlights of reports received June 17 through June 24 from the Niagara Frontier Region include AMER. WHITE PELICAN, MERLIN and YELLOW-THR. WARBLER.

Two reports of AMER. WHITE PELICAN this week - June 22 (6:10 pm) over the McKinley Mall in Hamburg, flying west towards Lake Erie, and June 23 (10 am) AMER. WHITE PELICAN in the outer harbor on the Buffalo waterfront, between the Small Boat Harbor and Times Beach Nature Preserve. Just east of the BOS region, AMER. WHITE PELICAN on June 23 in the Genesee County Town of Byron.

June 22, a report that MERLINS are nesting in the Southern Tier, in downtown Olean.

From Allegany State Park, June 20, 17 warbler species highlighted by YELLOW-THR. WARBLER at Allegany State Park Road 1 and Maintenance Road, and 2 PRAIRIE WARBLERS at the Red House entrance bike path. Also, 4 COMMON RAVENS and 3 BARRED OWLS on the Wolf Run loop trail.

Several reports from the Iroquois Refuge and surrounding areas this week. RED-HEADED WDPKR. off East Shelby Road, hiking south along the berm. Fourteen to 16 BLACK TERNS at Cayuga Pool with LEAST BITTERN, sub-adult BALD EAGLE and COMMON MOORHEN. In the Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area, south of the Feeder Canal and west of Route 77, a late SEMIPALM. SANDPIPER on June 21, plus a high count of 14 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, plus 6 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2 AMERICAN WIGEON, adult BALD EAGLE and 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS. And, on the Swallow Hollow Trail, 6 EASTERN PHOEBES, VEERY, WOOD THRUSH, CEDAR WAXWING, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARBLER, 2 ROSE-BR. GROSBEAKS, INDIGO BUNTING, 4 BOBOLINKS and 4 BALTIMORE ORIOLES.

June 21 at the Batavia Waste Water Plant, two rare in summer waterfowl species - 1 GREATER SCAUP and 16 RUDDY DUCK, plus AMERICAN BLACK DUCK and GADWALL.

Other reports this week - in Orchard Park, a BROAD-WINGED HAWK chasing a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK. Breeding Bird Survey in Hamburg found a BROWN CREEPER, and in Elma, 2 breeding PINE WARBLERS and YELLOW-THR. VIREO. And, an unexpected NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD on East Eden Road in the Town of Eden.
