I apologize for not submitting until now, yesterday disappeared on me.
2 adult Sandhill Cranes with 1 young chick were observed Tuesday July 6 at 9:10 a.m. feeding in a mowed field (I think hay) despite the heat of the day, approximately 75 m from the road (Regional Road 17). The chick was flightless, golden brown, downy and small, just past the adults' knees, not yet tall enough to touch the adults' bellies. This mowed field was located between the Grand River and Regional Road 17 (north of the Grand), on the south side of the road and east of Cayuga, approximately 100 to 150 m southeast of Grand River RV Resort and approximately 3.5 km southeast of downtown Cayuga. Cayuga is located in the southwest area of the Niagara Peninsula, approximately a 40 minute drive south of Hamilton.
