Hello Ontbirds people,

Today (01 August) at ~ 9:00 AM, 3 Caspian Terns were observed flying around (sometimes together) over the Ottawa River west and north of the extensive mud flats on the west side of the Shirley's Bay causeway. A singleton was reported from Shirley's Bay on 30 July by Peter Campbell.

This species is an annual but uncommon visitor to Ottawa, and it is unusual for multiple birds to be seen together in "our neck of the woods".

Shorebird species & numbers were still rather static here this morning, with 10 spp. observed by us: Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Greater & Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted, Solitary, Semipalmated, Least & Pectoral Sandpiper, and Wilson's Snipe. A couple of Merlins briefly stirred things up.
