Things have not picked up locally but there is some evidence that fall
migration is well underway. There have been no unusual shorebirds reported this
week but there are still good numbers of peeps and both yellowlegs in the
Wilton Creek at Morven. There are also large mats of algae in the Cataraqui
River that are attracting a similar mixture of waders. The second Black-bellied
Plover of the fall was at the lagoons on Monday. The first of hundreds of Am.
Wigeon that annually congregate in the Cataraqui River was with a flock of
Mallards on Monday.

Recent warbler sightings include Tennessee, Am. Redstart and Nashville on the
K&P Trail, Chestnut-sided at Elginburg and Canada at Prince Edward Point. There
was also a Blue-headed Vireo on the K&P last week.

Black-billed Cuckoos have been noticeably noisy the last week or ten days; do
they get vocal when they start to move south or is the photoperiod prompting
them to pretend it's spring much like the fall Spring Peepers?

A flock of young Wild Turkeys was flushed near Camden East on Wednesday and
interestingly the young birds (not as big as a Ruffed Grouse and still not
fully feathered) took to the air rather than running through the hay. One of
the better fliers managed about 50 yards before landing in a tree in a nearby
hedgerow.

Cheers,

Peter Good
