----------------------------------------------------------------------

Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 7.33 hours

Official Counter: Rob Payne

Observers: Fred Kirn, Raburn Howland, Rodney Laura

Visitors:
Only the normal volunteer hawk watch crew.

Weather:
Low pressure cold front from the south west officially made it to the count
site. All day cloudiness kept the migration at a near stop. During the late
afternoon a rolling gust storm came in from the west and drowned out the
site. Power was out for hours in most nearby towns.

Raptor Observations:
The cold front made for a very slow day of counting, only 3 individuals
where countable as migratory.

Non-raptor Observations:
A fly-by Buff-breasted Sandpiper was a very nice surprise. It may represent
the first park record of this migratory sandpiper.

Predictions:
More of the low pressure system to come. September third will probably be
another slow day. We are hoping that Hurricane Earl, which is moving north
along the eastern seaboard, will push some migrants our way. Over the next
week we may start to see the effects of Earl.
