Hi All!

Well, it's been a while since I've posted - but we're back with regular
reports (every 2-3 days) throughout the fall at the very least.

It's an extremely windy day here in the park and as such, the birds that
are around are hunkered down in the more sheltered parts of the park.
There has been a nice diversity of warblers around the park over the last
week, continuing today.

At a short jaunt to Blue Heron, I saw the following highlights
Canada Warbler (2)
Blackpoll Warbler)
Bay-breasted Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
American Redstart
Cape May Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Wilson's Warbler
E. Wood Pewee

There are good numbers of Cedar Waxwings throughout the park right now and
an actively feeding group of Eastern Phoebes in the DeLaurier parking lot.
I also noted a pair of Sandhill Cranes flying over the Marsh this morning.

A Connecticut Warbler was noted yesterday along the Woodland Nature Trail.
All the typical spots for warblers in the park have been good. The Tip is
particularly good first thing in the morning - the shuttle will start
running daily at 8 am on September 7, until Thanksgiving.

The soccer complex, north of the park on Mersea Rd 12, continues to the be
good for shorebirds, and an ideal location for Buff-breasted Sandpipers
(when there aren't any games on). The gates to the complex are mostly
locked when there are not games that day, so observing from the road is the
norm. The shoulders are pretty wide in this section, but be aware there
are a lot of large, slow moving farm vehicles on this road. A scope is a
must. Recent trips to the onion fields by several observers have not been
fruitful.

Butterflies continue to amaze this fall - there were Giant Swallowtails
everywhere you looked today, along with Viceroys, Black Swallowtails,
Spicebush Swallowtails and of course Monarchs. We have yet to see any
significant movements of Monarchs through the park to date. We will be
Tweeting Monarch numbers throughout September, starting on the evening of
the 7th. (www.twitter.com/PointPeleeNP, or check out our web page -

Good birding everyone!
