Sorry for late posting - I sent this yesterday but it bounced on me.
The Little Blue Heron was still present this morning [Sept 17] around 10:00 am. I saw the bird from the tiny parking area as I stepped out of my car, but unfortunately, a freight train went by setting off the crossing alarms. With that noise and the engines blowing their horns, the bird dropped from the tree where it was perched into the reeds and was lost from sight. I waited around for about an hour and was rewarded with another very brief glimpse as the heron flew above the reeds for a short distance before dropping out of sight again. Two hours drive for 5 seconds viewing! Ah well, that's birding! A few Mallards, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow-rumped Warbler and a pair of raucous Belted Kingfishers were about the only other birds present. Cheers Dave Moore Ottawa Directions from Ottawa: 417 east to exit 58 138 south to St. Andrews West west on CR-36 to Township Road 33 / Richmond Drive south on Richmond and just past the RR tracks to the very small parking area on the right. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
