Good N winds and high thermals over Cranberry Marsh in southwest
Whitby on Oct.1 brought over 25 observers to identify and count hawks
as they
tracked high and low from Thickson Pt. over our heads. I was happy to
be with them for 3 hours.

This is an incomplete report because I had to leave 10+ great
observers to continue observing and recording. After 5 hours the
number of migrating
raptors was well over 700, including 440 TURKEY VULTURES, 170
SHARP-SHINNEDS, 88 AM.KESTRELS, 10 BROAD-WINGEDS and
our first N.GOSHAWK.

Between Sep.20 and Sep.30 there have been only 300 migrating hawks
over CMRW, there being only 1 day with NW winds and good thermals.
The total from Aug.23 to Oct.1 will be well in excess of 6000.

I thank every observer and counter for their diligent work.

1 block east of Lakeridge Rd. on Victoria St. in southwest Whitby,
turn south down Hall's Rd. toward the lakefront, parking in the second
roadside
 parking area.

CMRW coordinator
