Greetings,
This morning at about 9 am Sarah Petrasek and I saw two Hudsonian
Godwits flying from Gull Island toward Owen Pt. at Presqu'ile Prov.
Park. We lost sight of them (our view was partly blocked by tall veg
on Gull Is.) and were unable to relocate them on Owen Pt. or anywhere
on the beach. It is possible that they are somewhere out in the
marsh, but hopefully they will return to a visible place.
Other shorebirds included 15 Black-bellied Plover, 12 Semi. Plover, 1
R Turnstone, 1 G Yellowlegs, 1 W-r Sandpiper, 2 Baird's Sandpiper, 1
Least Sandpiper, 1 Semi Sandpiper, 20 Sanderling, 35 Dunlin. There
were 100's of sparrows on the island (many junco, white-crowns, songs)
but the wind kept them down and out of view most of the time, as well
as small numbers of yellow-rumps and palm warbler, pipits and horned
larks. A peregrine also flew over the Park Store parking lot when we
arrived at 730.
Directions: Presqu'ile is located south of Brighton, Ontario on the
north shore of Lake Ontario. Take Hwy. 401 exit for Brighton (#509)
and follow south into Brighton, then follow signs for the park.
Cheers,
Doug McRae
