'Twas a cold NE wind that blew onto the faces of 8 eager
hawk-watchers at CMRW in sw Whitby at 10AM on Monday, Oct.4. After 3
consecutive days with good N winds, rising BP and good thermals gave
us nearly 3000 migrating raptors today's NE winds, steady BP and lower
thermals brought only 50 hawks to be counted. BUT, our highlight was a
chunky, brown, short-tailed owl rising from the east side of the
wetlands and moving east low over the far side of the marsh--it was a
SHORT-EARED OWL.
