Also our usual troop of friendly hawk watchers. Weather: Today was cloudy, breezy, and cold. Winds slowed in comparison to yesterday, averaged at 8mph with gusts topping 22mph, still from the north west. It was fairly warm if the sun found a patch in the clouds, but those were few and far between. At times rain looked imminent, but never arrived. Raptor Observations: A decent push of Turkey Vultures with 2,266. That may be the last big numbers of Vultures we sill see this season, only time will tell. Sharp-shinned Hawks made an impressive push for time of the season, 47 were counted throughout the day. Red-tailed Hawks were having a hard time through the wind, but 42 is not too shabby. We also had 1 Golden Eagle, and 1 Merlin come through. A total of 2,372 were counted of 9 species. Non-raptor Observations: American Crow numbers continue to push through, at times thousands will come through. A/the Great Black-backed Gull was re-found one trail connected to the count site. A flock of Wood Ducks were also nearby and 6 beautiful males made up the majority of the flock. Predictions: tomorrow will be sunnier but cooler, this might be one of our last good days for the next week. This weekend is expected to bring us rain, but will at least be warmer. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
