Not a particularly rare species at this time of year, but I thought this observation was worth reporting, considering the unusual location. This morning at around 7 am (a good half hour before sunrise) I came across 3 American Pipits walking around in the parking lot on the north side of the train tracks at the Guildwood GO station, and at least two additional ones heard flying overhead. In over a decade of birding in this area, this is the first time I've encountered any pipits, let alone on the ground. I suspect they were grounded by the heavy fog (and fear it might end up being a very busy night and morning for FLAP volunteers, as many other migrants were probably forced down too, and in more developed areas probably suffered many collisions with buildings). I imagine there could be good fallouts of migrants at a variety of places along the lakeshore too.
Directions: Guildwood GO station is on the south side of Kingston Road in Scarborough, roughly midway between Galloway Road and Guildwood Parkway.
