However this morning's fog did burn out. Instead it turned into a thick mid level cloud cover. In the afternoon it cleared over Lake Erie to our south east, but the north east winds kept the fog over us. Temperatures where mild, but we had to fight with wind chill, and had no sun to help us feel the warmth. Raptor Observations: Raptors moved more today than the last two days combined. Still not up to par, but that shows signs of changing. We had a rouge group of 14 Turkey Vultures make it through in the early afternoon. 54 Red-tailed Hawks and 2 Rough-legged Hawks were all the Buteo representatives. A single juvenile Golden Eagle came through at about 1:30pm. A total of 81 Raptors were counted of 7 species. Non-raptor Observations: The Bonaparte's Gulls were especially cooperative today, little feeding frenzies right in front of us. Two groups of Black-crowned Night-Herons made passes to our north. The first contained 4 and moved north, while the second had 14 and moved south, I think the first group stopped to grab some friends. Predictions: Odds are tomorrow will play out as today, the math is in the air for more morning fog. The winds are going to continue out of the north east but should lighten up. The steady increase of birds this week should continue, I'm hoping a big number day is right around the corner. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
