Winds were moderate out of the north west at an average of 7mph, with gusts into the teens. The winds were much stronger at higher elevations, and many of the raptors we saw had a hard time flying the direction they were looking. Raptor Observations: Quality over Quantity, as the first raptors we saw was a kettle of 3 juvenile Golden Eagles. Which was followed immediately by a juvenile Northern Goshawk who came in right overhead. We had 2 more Golden Eagles flying solo later in the day. The raptors continue to use the lunchtime push method, which is basically between 11am and 1:30pm. A total of 27 raptors were seen of 6 species. Non-raptor Observations: 26 Tundra Swans were counted flying south. 3 Black-crowned Night-Herons were noted throughout the day, 1 was an adult and 2 were juvenile. Predictions: Tomorrow looks to be a continuance of today's weather. The sun is supposed to break through in the afternoon. Winds are going to be a problem, said to be 20mph out of south west. A few birds will try for it as long as there is no precipitation, but I don't think any major push will happen. The weekend looks to be better for migration, especially Sunday. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Greg Norwood ([email protected]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
