Ontbirders,

Just a heads up on the Barnacle Goose in the Port Elgin area- was talking
to a fellow aviculturist in the south Bruce Peninsula area
and he had a Barnacle Goose escape about 6 weeks ago. There were no bands on
his bird. An unfortunate circumstance for birders
(and of course the collector as well).
A dilema for a countable bird. Most birds in captivity will be marked
with a band of some sort but not necessarily. Waterfowl in the
States must have one hind toe clipped which is often difficult to see. If
captured or shot and in the hand, the bottom of the feet are usually a giveaway
with extra wear on the toe joints.
I think we also would all be amazed at the number of foreign passerines in
captivity in Ontario, even Hummingbirds.
     So heads up.!
