Hey Ontbirders. I led a CCFEW (Citizens Concerned about the Future of the
Etobicoke Waterfront) bird walk today from 9a.m. to 11:30a.m. @ Humber Bay Park
East in Mimico (east end Etobicoke).
Highlights included: Merlin (pair dive bombing each other along the river
mouth and being chased by an Am. Crow), Common Redpoll (1 flyover), Ruddy Duck
(2 in east bay), N. Pintail (2 males flying over), Am. Coot (2 off west point
of Humber Bay West), Lesser Scaup (2 in east bay), Black-crowned Night-Heron
(in spruce tree next to washrooms), The "large Scaup flock" was in the bay off
of Humber Bay Park West and held perhaps a 1000 birds, many of which were
Redhead.
I also popped over to nab some nice photos of the Bronte Harbour King Eider
which appears to be a 3rd year male (is it 4 or 5 years to full maturity?). 2
Common Loons and a single ad. male White-winged Scoter were close to shore as
well.
Finished the day with a respectable 46 species mostly from Humber Bay East and
with very few songbirds included in that total.
Directions: The Humber Bay Parks are at the foot of Park Lawn Blvd. just south
of the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto.
