Hello Ontbirders, My apologies for the angst this may cause on Christmas day. I escaped a family gathering for 3 hours this afternoon and birded the Niagara River. I watched an adult Slaty-backed Gull above Niagara Falls from 2:50 to 3:55 pm. Park at the Greenhouse above the falls and walk across the road to the river. The bird was sitting just east of the old power building, about 200 m out. The river was very good overall today. There were 2 adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls in the same location, another just upriver at the hydro diversion and a first winter at Sir Adam Beck. Also at Adam Beck were 12++ Iceland Gulls, 3 Thayer's Gulls (1st winter, 2nd winter and adult), the California Gull and 2 Glaucous Gulls. There was 1 Little Gull at Niagara on the Lake at flyby (with 510 Bonaparte's Gulls and over 5100 Long-tailed Ducks) - between 4:15 and 5:00 pm.
I got decent digiscope photos and video of the SBGU which will be submitted to OBRC.
