Hello Ontario Birders: Sorry for taking so long to update all of you on the
Ontario Winter List for 2010/11. Birds with names like Canestero and
Cinclode were calling me and I just had to go see them.

The current winter list stands at 173 species. That is slightly behind the
182 species recorded up until Christmas during the 2009/10 Ontario Winter
List, but it could be because you consider them to be a regular bird in your
area and you have not posted it to ONTBIRDS in accordance with ONTBIRD
guidelines. The complete Ontario Winter List, with sighting up to Christmas
Eve, will be posted at the following website in the next couple days:
http://tinyurl.com/onwinter. Please review the list and report any missing
species to me personally at [email protected].

There has been one new species added to the historical Ontario Winter List
with the Wilson's Phalarope found at the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons on December
1, 2010. Other good species for the Winter List so far include: Great Egret;
Lesser Yellowlegs; Spotted Sandpiper; Wood Thrush; Summer Tanager; and,
Scarlet Tanager. These are species that have been recorded in previous
winters, but not on an annual basis.

Some missing species that might have been seen by Northern or Eastern
birders, but not reported yet include: Gray Partridge; Sharp-tailed Grouse;
Eared Grebe; Gryfalcon; Boreal Owl; American 3-toed Woodpecker; Black-backed
Woodpecker; Boreal Chickadee and Brewer's Blackbird. Again, if you have a
sighting of any of these species since December 1, 2010 please let me know
at [email protected]

Hope everyone is having a Merry Christmas.
