I saw the juv BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE this morning in Sarnia Bay that Alf Rider kindly reported late yesterday. It was in a small patch of open water in the Marina with a group of Redhead Ducks. It was the only gull in that patch! A scope was required as it was on the far side where it is not accessible to the public. It will likely move around.

It has been a good winter for gulls on the St. Clair River (the last two winters there have been almost none!). Each day can be drastically different depending on ice conditions and where the gulls are. Today most gulls were at the head of Stag Island just north of Corunna. Lots of ducks here as well.
I had up to ten Glaucous (various ages) and one Iceland (first cycle) there.

There were very little in the way of gulls farther downriver, but I did have an Iceland (first cycle) a couple km south of Lambton Generating Station.

Lots of gulls were farther downriver late last week, but have since gone elsewhere. An adult Lesser Black-backed Gull and a Thayer's have been around and are likely still out there.

Sarnia Bay: In Sarnia along Front St. Near the foot of London Rd. there is a parking lot in which you can view the south end of the Bay where the kittiwake was. London Rd. is a main E/W artery in Sarnia. The St. Clair Parkway runs south from Sarnia along the St. Clair R. Guthrie Park is just north of Corunna and across from the north end of Stag Island.
