Birders
I had a voice mail message waiting for me Monday night from George
Prieksaitis stating that he had just seen a Barn Owl hovering, landing
and taking off around 7:15 pm at the Bronte GO station. It was last
seen flying east down the tracks towards the Third Line. This was not
wishful thinking this was a real sighting. I am posting now because I
finally got to talk to George. Earlier I had contacted a number of
people who were either local or were close to the GO line. I was NOT
hiding an OWL report from Ontbirds. The roost of an endangered species
might be some thing very different.
Anyhow Tuesday night I took the 5:43 GO Train to Bronte and spent a wind
swept 2 hours in the Bronte parking lot with no success. There is plenty
of habitat along the tracks as well as large areas of industrial land
that could appeal to an owl. Bronte Creek Provincial park is not far
away as well as golf courses and vacant land north of the QEW that is
full of raptors hunting mice. I'm not giving up.
Directions: Take the GO train. The Bronte GO station is between Bronte
Road and Third Line south of the QEW on Wyecroft Road. Follow the GO signs.
