January 16  -  On the January Waterfowl Count at Fort Erie,  Ontario, 
between the Peace Bridge and the Ice Boom there were:
6,823 Greater Scaup
346 Lesser Scaup    (unusually high)
79   Redhead
41   American Black Ducks
1     Mallard X Am. Black Duck
3     Mallard 
9     Canada Geese
763  Red-breasted Merganser
9      Common Merganser
106   Long-tailed Duck
2,944 Common Goldeneye
7,090 Bufflehead
7       White-winged Scoter
1 adult Bald Eagle and 1 juvenile Thayer's Gull
In Fort Erie North of the Peace Bridge there were also:
276  Redhead    (for a Fort Erie total of 355)
23 Ring-necked Duck 
3 American Coot
1 Wood Duck     (on the shore about 1 kilometer north  of the International 
Rail Road Bridge) 
170 Tundra Swan
2   Mute Swan
Continuing north in Niagara Falls there were 10 Hooded Mergansers, 6  
Gadwalls, and 1 Northern Pintail (at Dufferin Island)
At Adam Beck generating station (south of Queenston, Ontario) there were 7  
Iceland Gulls, 5 Glaucous Gulls, and 4 Lesser Black-backed Gulls.
In New York waters at Strawberry Island there were 41 Double-crested  
Cormorant nests and an adult Bald Eagle and at Mid-River Marina in Tonawanda  
there were 2 American Coots and 14 Redheads with 85 Am. Robins nearby on River  
Road.
