A Tour of the Dalrymple Lake area Monday produced a triple play.
The Hawk owl was present at the corner of Hwy 6 and 48. Evening Grosbeaks were seen at around 11:00 at 1545 Monck Road in Uphill. This is the home of Ginny Moore and is on the north side of the road just east of the intersection of Victoria Road and Monck Road in the village of Uphill. Ginny advises as follows: Feel free to use the driveway. Monck Road is a busy highway with very fast drivers so be very careful when pulling off. As always, please be very aware of the neighbours as the folks in this area can be a bit tetchy about birders. [I would add that you might want to check before entering the driveway so as not to scare the Grosbeaks if they are on the ground.] Shortly after arriving we observed a Sharp-shinned Hawk flying off with a Blue Jay in it's talons. Our third sighting was totally unexpected. While following up on earlier reports of Bohemian Waxwings on the Digby/Laxton Boundary Road we spotted a Grey Jay about 2 km south of Monck Road. When we stopped and gave a few somewhat stylized barred owl calls, two Grey Jay. [we did not see any wax wings] My companions were Susan Mensies and Alice Buchanan.
