Of particular interest this week were the one or two Boreal Chickadees that continue to be seen regularly in the area of the Visitor Register book near the start of Spruce Bog Boardwalk at km 42.5. They appear to be attracted to the suet feeder placed there. A Marten was seen in this area as well.
The Opeongo Road produced Gray Jays and another Marten feeding on bird seed near the bridge. Yet another Marten was near the junction with the Cameron Lake Road. The Visitor Centre feeders have Gray Jays regularly and the occasional Common Redpoll. We would appreciate receiving your bird observations for our Visitor Centre records. Follow the signs, which start in Toronto on Highway 400. >From Ottawa, take Highway 17 to Renfrew, then follow Highway 60 to the park. Kilometre markers along Highway 60 in the Park go from the West Gate (km 0) to near the East Gate (km 56). Get your park permit and the park tabloid (with a map of birding locations mentioned here) at the gates. The Visitor Centre at km 43 has recent bird sightings, feeders, and information. The centre and restaurant are open weekends from 10 am to 4 pm.
