Highlights of reports received January 27 through February 3 from
the Niagara Frontier Region include FOX SPARROW, EASTERN TOWHEE,
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, BOHEMIAN WAXWING,
COMMON REDPOLL and SNOW BUNTINGS.
January 30, a rare find in winter, especially away from feeders, a
FOX SPARROW on Cothran Road in the Niagara County Town of Porter,
among a flock of WHITE-THR. SPARROWS and AMER. TREE SPARROWS. Also on
Cothran Road, a female EASTERN TOWHEE, several AMERICAN ROBINS and a
NORTHERN SHRIKE.
Also in the Town of Porter, February 3, a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER
at a feeder in Ransomville.
Again, on the 30th, a single BOHEMIAN WAXWING with over 100 CEDAR
WAXWINGS by the orchards and feeders on Route 18 near the Town of
Newfane water plant.
Still in Niagara County, on Youngstown-Wilson Road near Fisk Road in
Wilson, an impressive flock of 1200 SNOW BUNTINGS with small numbers
of LAPLAND LONGSPURS and HORNED LARKS. Another flock of 600 SNOW
BUNTINGS, also with LAPLAND LONGSPURS, in the Town of Somerset on
Lower Lake Road at Burgess Road.
After a two week absence, at least 12 COMMON REDPOLLS at a feeder in
Orchard Park. COMMON REDPOLLS also at feeders in Wilson and Porter.
At the Iroquois Refuge, a trip around the seven mile Mohawk Pool ski
loop found SHARP-SH. HAWK, 2 BROWN CREEPERS and 15 AMERICAN ROBINS.
Nearby on Meadville Road, a NORTHERN SHRIKE.
The Bird Report will be updated Thursday evening, February 10.
