After working the morning shift I decided to chase the Brown Thrasher for my winter list at Lemoine Point which is only a few kilometres from where I live. At 3:30 p.m. the first good bird I found at the area where the thrasher was located yesterday was a LONG-EARED OWL which was sitting on a spruce branch in the open soaking up the sun. In the same area I heard the sounds of crossbills and observed 2 WHITE-WINGED and 3 RED CROSSBILLS as well as 1 COMMON REDPOLL. Also in the same general area was a BARRED OWL. On the way home at 4:30 p.m. the BELTED KINGFISHER was sitting on the hydro line off Bath Road by Collins Bay. I could not locate the Brown Thrasher.
Cheers Bruce Amherstview Lemoine Point >From Bath Road by the No Frills, take Coverdale Road and drive through two >sets of traffic lights. Keep driving straight and drive straight to the end >to Lemoine Point. Take the main path south until you reach an open field. >Just before the field there is a path to the right (#2 with a no biking sign). > All the birds were seen along the first 50 metres of this path. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
