Hi
Just (8am) had three Trumpeter Swans fly over the office at low altitude heading west (to Cobourg Harbour?). They were vocalizing and were a beautiful site against the blue sky. An immature Peregrine was sitting in a tree at Calf Pasture Point yesterday at 2pm. Maybe the same bird that was here for the 1st half of January? A 40+ flock of American Robins have been roaming the park and both chickadees and cardinal are quite vocal singing their spring songs. Presqu'ile bay is mostly frozen but there is still a good selection of ducks at the lighthouse area and along the picnic area shoreline. Presqu'ile Provincial Park is east of Toronto by 2 hours. Exit the 401 at exit #509 (Brighton). Follow the signs south through town (15 minutes). Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid that is available at the Park gate. The narrow channel between Owen Point and Gull Island is now ice-covered most of the time, but the ice, while appearing to be thick, might not support the weight of a human. However, the water beneath the crust, if there is any, is only ankle-deep. The surrounding shoreline can be very slippery. At any time, it is wise to stay off the shore ice.
