I spent several hours (12:30 to 3:40) attempting to find the Western and Eared
Grebes which other birders had reported seeing off and on through the morning
and early afternoon. There were a lot of other interesting birds around to make
the trip worth while: Common Loon (1), Double-crested Cormorant (20+),
Red-necked Grebe (560); Horned Grebe (21); Black-crowned Night-heron (4); a
good assortment of ducks including both Great and Lesser Scaup; American Coot
(1); Eastern Phoebe (1); Brown Creeper (3); Winter Wren (1); Eastern Bluebird
(2); Eastern Meadowlark (1); Dark-eyed Junco (5) and Barn Swallow (2). The
herons were sleeping in the large willows in the island on the long pond just
across from the observation platform. The other passerines were in found the
mixed woods and other bushy areas on either side of the soccer field.

Direction: the park is located south of Lakeshore Boulevard off the south end
of Kipling where it intersects Lakeshore Boulevard. The parking lot at the end
of Col. Samuel Smith Boulevard is being used extensively by people other than
those using the park so be prepared to parking elsewhere.
