At around 1:30 pm today (April 22), Cheryl Edgecombe, Barb Charlton and I
had one Greater White-fronted Goose at the Townsend Sewage Lagoons. It was
amongst about a thousand Canada Geese and was originally picked out in
flight when the birds flushed from the central berms. When we left the
site, it was with Canadas in the field on the north side of the NE lagoon,
but was difficult to see at times as it fed in the field.

The water levels were very high in all of the cells, including the SE cell
which had no suitable habitat for shorebirds. In fact, the only shorebird
we had (other than local Killdeer) was one Lesser Yellowlegs that flew over
looking for a place to land with no success. There were lots of ducks,
including many Northern Pintail, Green-winged Teal, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser
Scaup, Bufflehead and Ruddy Duck, and smaller numbers of American Wigeon,
Gadwall, Redhead, Canvasback, Common Merganser, Hooded Merganser and
American Coot.

Directions:
Take Hwy 6 south from Hagersville to the Nanticoke Creek Parkway; go west to
the stop in Townsend; go south on Keith Richardson Parkway; go west on
Townsend Concession 14 about one km; the lagoon entrance is on the north
side.

Cheers,
