Hi All Wow - what a windy day here at the Point! Point Pelee Drive was flooded in areas as a results of the wind and waves from Lake Erie.
Needless to say, birds were hunkered down much more this morning than usual, but that isn't to say there weren't any birds around. White-eyed Vireo was noted at the Tip this morning, as well as in Post Woods. A male Hooded Warbler was also found in Post Woods. Chestnut-sided Warbler was also noted at the Tip this morning. People enjoying the newly cleared Sparrow Field this morning, found it pretty windy and lacking sparrows, but did get great views of a Peregrine Falcon, heading north over the field. With the wind, many chose to venture outside of the park this afternoon and try their luck in onion fields. Three Marbled Godwits were found in a flooded field along Concession E (the first road north of the park) - they were feeding in the horse enclosure, which many may remember from last year's phalaropes. Glaucous and Franklin's Gulls were also noted along Mersea Road 21, just east of Kopegaren Woods. The gulls were put up from the field they were in, so keep an eye around all the gulls in the area. There have been no reports of the Neotropic Cormorant to my knowledge today - it was only seen once yesterday and could still be around. If you are birding in the Wheatley Harbour area, please note that dredging work on the entrance to the harbour is ongoing right now and there is a huge pile of sand to the east of the entrance. If you are used to looking at gulls on the breakwalls, and the rock pile, you view will be obstructed right now. The beach to the east of the harbour is accessible still. Our daily reports will start on Saturday - we'll do our best to keep you up to date on all the great migrants making their way through. Good birding everyone!
