Harald and I visited WPWL this afternoon. The day was calm and viewing was
excellent. The water level was up to the vegetation in the first cell but there
was adequate beach showing in the other cells.

Shorebirds: Greater (1) and Lesser (5) Yellowlegs, Dunlin(2), Pectoral(2),
Least(6), and Spotted(3) Sandpiper, and Killdeer(5)

Waterfowl: Good numbers of American Widgeon, Northern Pintail, Northern
Shoveler, and Ruddy Duck along with a few Green-winged Teal, Bufflehead,
Ring-necked Duck, and Common Merganser. A pair of Tundra Swans and lots of
Canada Geese were also present.

West Perth Wetlands are in Mitchell about 20 km west of Stratford on Hwy 8.
From Ontario St. (Hwy 8) go south on Wellington to Frank St. Cross over and
follow the gravel to the parking lot.

Unlike some other wetlands in Southern Ontario, West Perth Wetlands are very
welcoming to birders. No permits are required, and the cells can be viewed
from all sides.
