John Watson, Christine Shackleton and I went for the regularly reported Yellow Rail and heard it at 8:35 p.m. and using rocks placed on the bridge were able to simulate its "tapping" call and get frequent responses until about 9:00 p.m. Frogs were an issue, but so were the Soras, Virginia Rails, Swamp Sparrows, Marsh and Sedge Wrens and American Bittern. The Yellow Rail's location was much as Jean Iron described it in her post earlier today. No Whippoorwills or Common Snipe were heard before we left the area at 9. Directions Take highway 48 to Kirkfield and turn left on Kirkfield Road 6 and go north. From the Kirkfield Lift Lock on Kirkfield Road 6, drive 2.5 km north, turn right (east) on McNamee Road, then immediately left onto Wylie Road. Bluebird Box 10 is 1.8 km north and Sedge Wren Marsh is about 2.8 km north of the intersection. Kevin Shackleton
