I tried to post a notice about this bird yesterday without success; sorry for
the delay.

Kim Zitnew, Paul Mirsky, and I heard a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher on the ridge at
the north end of the Mud Lake Conservation Area in Britannia at 7:20 a.m. this
morning.

Yesterday I heard and saw a (the?) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher at 3:20 p.m. in the
woods on south side of Cassels, west of Mud Lake itself. It was moving
northward along the western edge of the woods (just east of the sumac stand).
Also present were at least 6 Scarlet Tanagers, 2 Red-eyed Vireos; and 15
species of warbler, including 5 Blackburnian, 4 Tennessee, a Bay-breasted, and
a Cape May.

The tanagers appeared to have disappeared this morning, but there were new
warbler arrivals, including Canada, Blackpoll and Mourning (the latter two not
observed by me). At least 5 Cape May Warblers were present. Two day warbler
total in Mud Lake: 21 species.

Directions

Take Pinecrest Road exit from 417 and head north to Richmond Road. Turn right
onto Richmond and merge to far left lane. After crossing Carling, the far left
lane defaults into a left turn lane onto Poulin. Turn left onto Poulin and
follow straight. Poulin makes a hard left after approx. 800m and becomes Howe.
You will now be heading west. At the first 4 way stop, turn right onto
Britannia Road and follow north to Cassels. Turn right onto Cassels and
continue to the entrance to Mud Lake. Park alongside the road there.
