I made a return visit with hopes to find the scarlet tanager. at 5 PM, I spotted 2 males sitting in a tree 15 meters from the parking lot. 1 male flew away towards Woodbine Beach and the other male left 30 seconds later.
About 10 minutes later, I spotted a common yellowthroat in the small trees near the front of the park. After that, I saw another scarlet tanager fly eastward towards (you guessed it) Woodbine Beach. It landed 10-15 feet up in a tree and gave some great looks for 2-3 minutes. It continued to fly along the boardwalk and gave me some more great looks as it fed from the trees. Also of note were: orchard orioles (1 observed briefly in the morning, 1 heard in the evening), kingbirds, a nashville warbler, kingfisher, and a rose-breasted grosbeak. Other than 3 myrtle warblers observed in the morning and 1 other warbler (ID pending) observed, there were few passerines observed today. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
