This submitted > report is a service of the Friends of Point Pelee Hike Leaders. > > Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: MAY 14, 2011 > > Warm humid and foggy near the Tip this morning but great birding. > In fact, many reports of birds all through the Park, mostly birds in groups > feeding. > > No reports of the Bell’s Vireo yet, but many birders are looking for it. > They have been distracted by all the fine birds reported, especially at the > Tip. > > A male Painted Bunting was found near the north end of the Redbud Trail. > > At least 25 warbler species have been reported so far. > > N. Mockingbird, E. Bluebird, Red-headed Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied > Flycatcher, and Summer Tanager were found south of the Tram Stop at the Tip. > There was a roosting Black-crowned Night-Heron south of the washrooms at the > Tip as well. Quite a few warbler species were scattered along the trails to > the Tip. > > At the tip, two first summer Lesser Black-backed Gulls were reported. A > couple of Dunlin and pipits flew by. A Long-tailed Duck and all three > species of scoter were reported flying by in the fog. > > Great excitement ensued when a Kentucky Warbler was heard and seen just > north of the Tram Stop at the Tip. While people were watching for it to pop > up into view, many species of warbler were sighted in a large mixed group. > Prothonotary, Cape May, Canada, Cerulean, Blue-winged, and Mourning Warblers > were seen as well as Brewster’s Hybrid. > Also noted were Gray-cheeked Thrush, and Philadelphia Vireo. > > Tilden Woods had a good number of warbler species this morning and many > thrush species. A Summer Tanager was also seen. > > Dunes Picnic area had a Tufted Titmouse and a Hooded Warbler. > > Birders on Woodland Nature Trail found a Mourning Warbler, and a > Prothonotary Warbler was seen near the south bridges. > > Connecticut Warbler was reported from White Pine. > Yesterday evening a Kirtland’s Warbler was reported in the De Laurier area. > > Outside the Park: > At Hillman marsh the regular shorebird species were seen.
