It was just me and myself and I who were present for this morning's guided bird walk in the Point Traverse Woods, due to the high winds and almost steady rain. However, birds were about in isolated pockets and in one such vortex I found myself (along with me and I) surrounded by 11 species of warblers comprising NASHVILLE, YELLOW, CHESTNUT-SIDED, MAGNOLIA, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACKBURNIAN, BLACK-AND-WHITE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and AMERICAN REDSTART. Also present in the pocket were WARBLING, RED-EYED and PHILADELPHIA VIREO, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and GRAY CATBIRD. One hour later, they had cleared out, but other similar pockets produced, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, NORTHERN PARULA and one WILSON'S WARBLER. EASTERN TOWHEE and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER were also present. A TENNESSEE WARBLER was also found by another birding party. The Point Traverse Woods is just 1/2 km prior to the Bird Observatory and features a network of groomed trails, benches, and today, copious amounts of standing water and lots of moving air.

The Birding Festival continues through the Victoria Day weekend. Details at www.peptbo.ca . Bird-friendly shade-grown coffee available in the Hospitality Tent. Guided bird walks every morning at 8:00 a.m. beginning just west of the Point Traverse corner.
