Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: MAY 19, 2011

Much better conditions with a light breeze from the south greeted birders in
the Park this morning and birding was great. A lot of new migrants in the
Park excited all the birders.

And adult Laughing Gull was at the Tip as well as the as yet unconfirmed
Yellow-legged Gull. Also at the Tip more than 20 species of warbler were
found including Prothonotary, Mourning, Cape May, Hooded and so on. A
Dickcissel flew out over the Tip. Eight Eastern Bluebirds were noted, and
several Philadelphia Vireos were present.

A Hooded Warbler was seen just south of the half-way Tram Stop, both along
the road and on the Post Woods Trail.

Tilden Woods was full of birds as well. A Cerulean Warbler and several
Mourning Warbler were reported along Shuster Trail and into Tilden Woods.

We have not heard, but the Prothonotary Warbler along the Woodland Nature
Trail was still regular as of yesterday at the south bridges.

Many other species are from all through the Park. More will likely be
reported as birders come into the Visitor Centre for lunch.

Outside the Park:

Today a Glossy Ibis was reported along Bevel Line (the road with the Days
Inn) near the Driving Range and Go-cart Track.

Last evening a Little Gull and a Black-headed Gull were found at Hillman’s
Marsh. It is not known whether they are there today. It is the second day
for the Little Gull though.

A Red-necked Phalarope was also mentioned from there yesterday. Again no
word of it today.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders: PETE, Karl, Todd, Justin, Marianne, John, Ellen, Alvan and
Jeremy
