Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for: MAY 21, 2011 Yet another beautiful sunny day with a lot of great birds being seen around the park. The highlight of the morning was a female Western Tanager at the tip. It was seen reverse migrating so unfortunately it wasn’t seen by many. If it shows up again someone will post it to OntBirds. Nearby a Summer Tanager was seen along with the more common Scarlet Tanagers making it a 3 Tanager morning for some. Several warblers were reported from the tip this morning including Cerulean, Worm-eating, Prothonotary, Connecticut, Wilson’s, Blackpoll and several more. A Le Conte’s Sparrow was there as well. Despite the leaves coming out in the Tilden’s trail many warblers are being found. A Mourning Warbler delighted many patient birders as well as a Common Nighthawk that has been regularly roosting in a tree at the Schuster Trail and Tilden’s Trail junction. Black Terns are regularly being seen around the marsh boardwalk. In all at least 30 species of warbler have been reported from the park so far today! Outside the Park: 1 Red-necked Phalarope was on the Concession E this morning and 1 White-rumped Sandpiper was on Concession D. Yesterdays 2 Red-necked Phalaropes posted by Sarah Rupert delighted many birders and photographers with great up close looks as they fed and preened in a puddle.
