Hello Ontbirders,

The best bird at Rondeau this morning was a Hooded Warbler on the South
Point Trail about 1 km south of the West parking lot, on Gardiner Ave. Note
that this is a different site than the parking lot accessed from Lakeshore
Road.

Cerulean Warbler was the bird of the afternoon at Rondeau yesterday. One
was on Harrison Trail about halfway between Group Camp and the Visitor
Centre, and another was on Tulip Tree Trail near post #8. Other good
warblers yesterday afternoon included a Blue-winged on Tulip Tree Trail and
a Mourning in the Campground.

Outside of the park, shorebirds were found yesterday in a flooded section of
field at the intersection of Erieau Road at Bisnet Line. Observers there
saw Semipalmated Sandpipers, Dunlin and Pectoral Sandpiper. At Erieau,
birders looking across the channel to the beaches of Rondeau sighted 1 Ruddy
Turnstone. On the rock piles at the breakwater there, they discovered 40
Whimbrel, and 2 Willet,

I would like to thank all of the birders who have made this year's program
such a huge success. These Ontbirds reports would have been much less
complete without all of the sightings information supplied by birders at the
park Visitor Centre, as well information in emails with updates. A few
individuals have gone above and beyond the call of duty in providing
extensive lists of sightings and photographs, and making an extra effort to
ensure that VC staff and I were kept current on the latest birds. Ric and
Anne McArthur, who hosted endless birders at all hours to see the
Yellow-throated Warbler at their feeders, deserve an extra special mention.

I would welcome any additional information or photographs that observers
wish to send regarding bird sightings at Rondeau. Information on nesting
birds is especially significant. The park and I are also most interested in
data concerning the park's herptiles, mammals, butterflies / other insects,
and flora.

The Friends of Rondeau and the park's interpretive staff have been extremely
helpful, and have made the birding program a very good one indeed.
As always, it's been great to enjoy my fifth season of birding with the
Rondeau birding community.

See you all next May!

Steve
