The latter half of June is typically a "leisurely" time for birding, while breeding birds go about their business.
Among the more notable recent sightings were a LEAST BITTERN in the wetland off Moodie Dr. between the Nepean Equestrian Park and the Nortel complex on the 27th; a couple of BALD EAGLES on both the Ontario and Quebec sides on the 26th and 27th, and several reports of MERLINS in various locations.
There was a mention of an adult LAUGHING GULL at Deschenes rapids on the "Oiseaux rares du Quebec" web site on the 22nd, but the bird evidently did not stick around. Back on the 18th, numerous BLACK TERNS were very active in the colony at Marais aux Grenouillettes west of Masson, Quebec.
On the 26th a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Gatineau Park at the edge of parking lot #12 near Meech Lake. A SEDGE WREN was heard in the the Mer Bleue area near Renaud and Anderson Rds. on the 17th, and reports of CLAY-COLOURED SPARROWS came in from the same area, as well as the fields south of the Ottawa international airport.
Thank you - Good Birding!
