The glossy ibis was seen at 5:45 PM today and then lifted and left the marsh
for the night. He was in the middle of the marsh for good viewing. Our egret
colony is growing as we observed 14 egrets on the roost and in the marsh. Marsh
wading and shore birds abound, 10 green herons, 6 great blue herons, 12
black-crowned night herons, 14 common gallinules (including chicks), 3 lesser
yellowlegs, 2 solitary sandpipers, least and American bittern and a host of
other regulars. As a bonus, we saw 3 yellow-rumped warblers so early migrants
seem to making their way to our area.
If you are visiting, Richmond Rd. is closed and you must come in along the
tracks across the road from Trillium DR. which is about 1/2 mile west of
Richmond DR. It is an 8 minute walk and the bush has been cleared from the
tracks so walking is easy. There are woodland birds to see on the walk in to
the marsh.
To get to this area from the west, take highway 401 and exit at Power Dam Dr.
( You can't exit Power Dam Dr. coming from the east.) Go south to the old
Highway #2 which is now called Vincent Massey Dr. At the stoplight turn right
(west) and drive approximately 1 mile to Richmond Dr. area. Please stay on
the tracks for your observations. The ibis has been in various locations on the

west side of the tracks.

Coming from the east, exit the 401 at Brookdale Ave. Go south over the 401
until you come to the first stoplight. Turn right on Tollgate Rd. Follow
Tollgate Rd. until you come to Vincent Massey Dr. Turn right (west) and proceed

to Richmond Dr. approximately 2 kilometers. Follow directions above. Bob
