Just observed a sandhill crane (3:45 pm) poking around a dry, grassy farmer's
field on Crowland Road just south of Young Road. The crane walked around the
field for about ten minutes with no signs of duress or any apprehension with us
pulling over and observing it, despite being only between 20-50 m away. We
drove off with the crane still walking about. Very strange indeed for this
area! This was an unmistakable sighting. Exact GPS coordinates: N 43 00.493 W
79 8.580 - let's see where it goes from here! For anyone local who is receiving
this fast and are interested in possibly having a look, use Lyon's Creek exit
off of the QEW, head west on Lyon's Creek. Young Road is the 2nd turn on the
left. Coordinates are exactly 2.59 km driving distance down Young Road and
crane was on the east side.
