This morning (Monday) before the rains came Bill Smith and I birded the
Mount Hope area sod farms and saw the following birds in the sod fields
behind the former school house on Unity Road.
8 American Golden-Plover - 3 juveniles the others in various stages of molt
of which a couple appeared to be in almost breeding plumage.
3 Buff-breasted Sandpipers
2 Baird's Sandpipers
2 Pectoral Sandpipers
There were also a number of American Pipits in the mix along with the usual
starlings and gulls and 150 +/- Killdeer
Weather was overcast and calm at the start but the wind picked up
considerably as the rain approached.
Directions:The former school house is on the right hand side of Unity Road
(a short distance west of Highway 6) which runs west from Highway 6 just
south of Haldibrook Road south of Hamilton. You can park behind the school
and walk across to the sod field.
