Raptor Observations:
This was a grand day for raptors. Over 5,000 total. Kestrel count (2,472)
is the highest single day on record. This is 1,300 above the previous daily
record. This total would be a respectable YEARLY total! There was not one
time period that didn't have over 100 AK and there were two hours with over
500 AK. Other totals: TV=1,332; SS=752; BW= 398; PG=10 (3 at once). The
Swainson's Hawk was a DARK morph ADULT. What a day. Several times birds
were everywhere. Thanks to observers we got them all.
Non-raptor Observations:
Smaller passerines were under cover. One observer had an Evening Grosbeak
10 k to the east of the tower! Most birds struggled unless they were very
high.
