Despite (or perhaps because of) the poor weather, there are 100s of
passerines moving along the south shore of Presqu'ile this morning.
These appear to be dominated by Yellow-rumped Warblers and
White-throated Sparrows, all feeding rather frantically. Other birds
noted include Nashville Warbler, Blue-headed Vireo, Swainson's Thrush,
White-crowned Sparrows, Dark-eyed Juncos, Swamp Sparrows, Black-capped
Chickadees, and Northern Flickers. No doubt other species are present
for those courageous enough face the elements. Also a Woodcock was
flushed from pathway of the Owen Pt Trail near lookout 1.

To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park, take the 401 to exit 409 at
Brighton, all follow the signs south.

Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid
that is available at the Park gate. Visitors to Gull Island not using a
boat should be prepared to wade through knee-deep water in which there
is often a swift current and a substrate that is somewhat uneven and
slippery. It should also be noted that, because duck hunting occurs on
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, Gull Island, High Bluff
Island, Owen Point, and part of the calf pasture are not available for
bird-watching on those days. Birders are encouraged to record their
observations on the bird sightings board provided near the campground
office by The Friends of Presqu'ile Park and to fill out a rare bird
report for species not listed there.
