Hi OntBirders... Today about 2:30 pm I saw the 2 Hudsonian Godwits at Frenchman's Bay. After observing them feed for about 5 minutes, they flew and made a circular trip to a nearby mudflat all the while giving excellent views of wing, rump and tail patterns. There were also a few White-rumped Sandpipers, a fair number of Semipalmated Sandpipers resting on the far side, a Lesser (probable) Yellowlegs wading near the gravel bar, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, and a number of Killdeer. In addition, there was a Great Egret resting on a log off the mudflats, plus a number of swans... about half Mute.
It would seem that the Godwits are likely to remain locally until a change in the weather occurs... As per Jean Iron's directions. Directions: exit 401 at Whites Rd in Pickering and go south to Bayly. Then east about 1.5 km past the row of town houses to Gingerbread nursery school on south side. Park at southeast corner where a well trodden down short trail leads to cattails and mudflats. Rubber boots are essential and the muckiest part is on the way in thru the cattails. Bruce -- B.F.
