I saw the Purple Gallinule between 2:00 and 3:00 this Tuesday afternoon. A
birder leaving before I got there was not so lucky. The Gallinule was
usually partly to mostly obscured by phragmites along the south end of the
pond. I was about ready to leave when it finally came out for decent
viewing.

Directions:

Take the QEW to exit 44 - Niagara St. Go north on Niagara to Lakeshore.
Turn right and cross the canal, then make the first left. Stay along the
canal and park at the gate. The walk out is quite far (about a km). Go to
the 'pond' on the east side. To do this, take the trail that goes off the
right side of the main trail. This trail eventually goes along the east
side of the pond between the pond and the lake. Look to your left along the
southern edge of the pond. The bird may be obscured by phragmites and may
not be visible at all.

Good birding!

Willie
