Hey Mark,

Yes, this is a good reminder.

What address should one be using when submitting material to Ontbirds? It
always used to be "[email protected]". Then it changed to
"[email protected]" but I never seem to be able to remember the latter so I
often send it to the old one and it still works. Is it ok to send to the old
one, Ontbirds@hwcn?

Thanks,

Chip

Birders

One thing I know about email.  When you send a message, it's gone. If you made
a mistake you can't pull the message back. It's good to remind yourself that
Ontbirds readers are an understanding lot that can figure their way through
most mistakes. Still I know I would like to retrieve the message I sent
yesterday that lacked a subject heading but it doesn't work that way. Either
you have to live with it  or send as second message as a retraction.... Neither
option is that appealing so it is always a good idea to review your post for
content before sending.

Our posting guideline which can be read at
http://www.ofo.ca/information/ontbirdsguide.php  and makes the following two
key points

1. A subject heading with species and general location

2. Written directions with every post -  Reporting birds without directions
defeats the purpose of Ontbirds and probably should be reported to area
compilers rather than Ontbirds. Links to maps do not always work, Ontbirds is a
text only messaging system that automatically strips formatting including
embeded links from a message in an attempt to make archives legible. When links
do work, many readers do not know how to use them. Referring to older messages
is fine if the reader has access to the older messages. That may not be the
case. Keep it simple, directions with every post makes sure that all readers
have useful information.
