Ontbirds subscribers,
This morning has seen persistent and building south and southeast winds of
25-30 km/h (gusting up to 40 km/h) off Thickson's Woods in Whitby. Twice in the
last hour, a juvenile Black-legged Kittiwake has come in to the bay off of
Crystal Beach Boulevard. Also seen were 2 unidentified phalaropes (simply too
distant to be sure which species), 12 White-winged Scoter (heading east) and 29
American Pipits (all headed west around Thickson Point). A light rain has begun
in the last 15 minutes. A Palm Warbler and several Yellow-rumped Warblers have
been foraging along Crystal Beach Boulevard.

To reach Crystal Beach Boulevard, take Hwy 401 to exit 412 (Thickson Rd.) and
take Thickson Road S. south to the cul-de-sac for the waterfront trail. Park at
the cul-de-sac and walk the remainder of Thickson Rd. south to the lake. Turn
left (east) onto Crystal Beach Boulevard. For a good view of the lake, I have a
provided a bench for birders on the bluff overlooking Lake Ontario in front of
my home.
